Northeast Youth Association (NEYA) Football is offered through the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department.  Registration is completed at Parks and Recreation sites.  Fees are handled through the NEYA beginning in August.  Practice is held at our Hicone Road Complex.  Games are played during the week at Jaycee, and Hester Parks for Pee Wee and Mite division.  The Flag division will play games at Hicone Road Complex and Eastern Guilford Middle School on weekends all sites located in Greensboro.

Football Divisions & Age Brackets

  • Flag, age 5 -6 (Must be 5 years old to play)
  • Pee-Wee, ages 7 – 9
  • Mites, ages 10 -12

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Program is for ages 7 –12 with maximum weight limits.  Age is based on a player’s age as of October 16th of the participating year.  Players must register in the district where they reside.  NEYA Football registration payments will be held August 2nd     thru August 5th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at Hicone Road Complex.

Registration begins June 3, 2010 and ends June 30, 2010.   For those players who may be trying out for Middle School team, you must register during those dates to be eligible to play in 2010 football season.

Athletics Philosophy

The philosophy of the Athletic Section of the Greensboro Parks Recreation Department is to create a positive environment for youth and adults

  • By emphasizing each individual’s rights to participate

  • By teaching life skills, good sportsmanship and game fundamentals

  • By stressing fun and enjoyment above all

Key Point to Remember

  • One parent from each player’s family is required to be a member of the PAYS program(view a 19 minute video)

In order to register, parents must have the following:

  1. The child’s birth certificate (original or legible copy)

  2. A PAYS card (legible and valid)

  3. Completed registration card

  •  Field supervisors are in place during games to handle weigh – ins and general supervision

Registration fees are collected to offset the cost of officials, equipment, etc.

  • The youth football program is divided into skill levels of Varsity and Junior Varsity. These levels are within Pee Wee and Mite age groups if numbers permit

  • Pee Wees are 7-9 years old on or before October 16, and can not exceed 125 lbs.(with equipment) No exceptions!

  • Mites are 10-12 years old on or before October 16, and can not exceed 145 lbs.(with equipment) No exceptions!

Note: Players are not allowed to participate in this Parks & Recreation youth football program if they are playing organized school football.

  • Every team and each individual who plans to play must weigh in before each game.

  • Legal residence is defined as that listed by the school that the player attends.

  • Practices are limited to 4 days (8hours max. per week) in the preseason. Once actual games begin, practices are limited to 3 days (4.5 hours max. per week).

-- EXTREME HEAT: PLEASE REVIEW THE GUIDELINES IN THE BY-LAWS --

  • No practice will be allowed prior to Monday, August 2nd. On August 2nd coaches can start conditioning ONLY – no contact! Helmets and mouthpieces are strongly encouraged for all practices! All players, organizations, and recreation centers should have water available at each practice.

Note: If players are unsure if they are interested in playing school or recreational football, they are

STRONGLY encouraged to register during June 3rd – June 30th.

Please notify the Athletic office immediately if your child will play for a school team!
